Not all sealers are the same. Normally they use a black shiny sealer called gilsonite, which is a cut by-product of gasoline. This sealer exhibits none of the qualities of a coal tar based sealer, i.e. protection against gas and oil spills, oxidation, water penetration and many other harmful factors. The coal tar dries to a natural non-black finish.
